FAQ for tandem flights
Do you have questions about a tandem flight? The most frequently asked questions are answered here.
Your age doesn't matter when paragliding as a passenger, whether you're 5 or 99 years old.
You should weigh between 20 and 100 kg. In case you are outside of this weight range, you should be able to run fast!
You should be able to run quite fast for a short distance and weigh between 20 and 100 kg. You are not allowed to have any health restrictions for a tandem flight. If in doubt ask your doctor.
A few facts: The take-off point is 1500 meters above sea level. In some cases, we climb up to 2000 meters above sea level during the flight. In the worst case, the landing is as hard as jumping off a table, but usually as soft as jumping off a step.
As we take off from a mountain slope and must run, mountain boots are the preferred choice. A sole with good grip on rough terrain is required. During the flight we have a constant wind. A windproof jacket is recommended at any temperature. We provide the helmet. Gloves are an advantage at temperatures below 15°C.
Our pilots are very well trained and have many years of experience in paragliding. They also know the flying area and can assess the weather very well. If there is the slightest doubt, we will not take off.
Nevertheless, paragliding is a sporting activity that takes place outdoors. A small residual risk of minor injuries can never be completely ruled out.
A reservation is recommended. Spontaneous requests are possible but cannot always be processed immediately in high season. To secure an appointment, it is usually sufficient to register three days before the desired date.
The reservation can be made by phone, email or online. The reservation is binding. If you are unable to make the appointment for any reason, please call us. Perhaps someone else can come along spontaneously.
The earlier in the day, the calmer the air. The flights are extremely relaxed, and we float through the morning air down to the valley.
Later in the day, the chances of a slightly longer flight increase. However, you also need a stronger stomach. However, the chances of a flight also decrease somewhat because: If the wind or thermals are too strong or gusty, we stay on the ground.
Due to the weather, some flights unfortunately must be cancelled. You will then receive a call, and we can find an alternative date. Please set the date at the beginning of your holiday. If the weather gods are not on your side on your last day of holiday, there are no alternative options and unfortunately your flight will not take place at all.
It can happen that tandem flights have been cancelled, and paragliders can still be seen in the sky. There is no law or air traffic control that tells us when we can and cannot fly. Each pilot is responsible for themselves and their passenger. The same applies to tandem flights: no risk, more fun!
In the office of the Achensee flight school. This is in the valley station of the Cablecar in Pertisau.
If you would like to reach the take-off point on foot or want to enjoy the panorama before your flight, a meeting at the take-off point is possible. Please discuss this with your pilot in the office beforehand.
Our flying area is the Zwölferkopf in Pertisau. Here we have three take-off points available for different wind directions. The special thing: after take-off we have the entire Achensee in front of and below us!
The flight time is very variable and depends on the time of day, wind and thermals and how well you feel. A normal flight lasts between 8 and 10 Minutes. Sometimes everything is just right, and a flight can last up to 20 minutes. However, the price remains the same regardless of the flight time.
Unfortunately, not. But our pilots have a camera with a selfie stick and the know-how to take good photos. So, you can concentrate fully on your flight.
We land at one of our two landing sites. Either at the Hotel Bergland or at the Hotel Wiesenhof. Both are about a five-minute walk from our office. Just ask the pilot beforehand.
The trip up the mountain costs around 18,50 euros. You can get to the starting point for free with the “Achensee Adventure Card” or by foot.
Payment takes place after the flight, only in cash in our office.
